NEWELL, Virginia Ruth Of Middletown, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on February 13, 2017, surrounded by her family and closest friends. She was born in Hamilton, Ohio, on February 6, 1923. She was the youngest daughter of James and Attilia (Hoeferkamp) Redden. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, James, Edward, and Richard, Redden as well as a sister, Dorothy Lamke. She is survived by her children, Suzanne Stratton and Dennis (Vicki) Newell as well as six grandchildren, Christopher (Nancy) Stratton, Patrick (Lillian) Stratton, Laura (Christopher Stoops) Stratton, Jacob Stratton, Bryson Newell, and Manon Newell. She is also survived by five great-children and many nieces and nephews. Ginny was part of the war effort during the 1940's, taking a manufacturing job in Cincinnati at Wright Aeronautical (now GE), making aircraft engines and propellers for military aircraft. After the war, she married and had two beloved children, Suzanne Stratton and Dennis Newell. Following the birth of her children, Ginny began working at Mercy Hospital in Hamilton, Ohio, where she was a surgical technician. During the 1950's, she became a single mother and a woman with a career, and was truly ahead of her time. In later years, Ginny worked as a nurse in private practice for Dr. Robert Schurdak in Cincinnati and later for Dr. Thomas Furlong in Middletown, Ohio, where she became a resident in the 1970's. Following her retirement from healthcare, she worked caring for infants, first at her daughter's daycare, Building Blocks and later at the Middletown Regional Hospital Child Care Center. Ginny was happiest when she was helping others. She loved spending her time with babies and children. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was a constant presence in their lives. She was an active member of the Holy Family Parish in Middletown, Ohio. Ginny embodied the sentiment of the Fred Rogers quote, "Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping." That is her legacy and the lesson that she leaves for all of us who will miss her spirit. A Catholic mass will be held in her memory on Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. John's Catholic church in Middletown, Ohio at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital.
