Verna M. McClain
Verna M. (Stinson) McClain, 91, of Allegheny Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, in Allegheny Valley Hospital Inpatient Hospice, Natrona Heights. Born Sept. 9, 1925, in Woods, Pa., she was a daughter of the late John and Violet (Hess) Stinson. Verna lived in Allegheny Township for most of her life. She was a 1943 graduate of Robertsdale High School and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot during World War II. She was a member of the Braeburn United Methodist Church in Lower Burrell and member of the church choir. She enjoyed taking care of her home, including cooking, flower gardening, making jelly and baking breads. Verna was also an avid reader. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Brinton M. "Buckshot" McClain, May 16, 2010; brothers, Lester and Melvin Stinson; and a sister, Sylvia Veres. Verna is survived by her sons, Larry (Patricia) McClain, of Grindstone, Lanny (Penny) McClain, of Washington Township, and Brian (Cheryl) McClain, of Allegheny Township; a daughter, Cheryl McClain, of Oakmont; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 19, 2017, at the CURRAN-FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY INC., 100 Owens View Ave., Apollo. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at the funeral home with the Rev. Sharon Waltenbaugh and the Rev. Tom Dougal co-officiating. Burial will follow in Plum Creek Cemetery, Plum Borough.
