VERMILION – Vema Rejeania Flannery (nee Dancy),75, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice after a lengthy illness. Vema was born June 17, 1941 in Beckley, WV, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 5 years moving from Berlin Heights and Lorain. Vema started her working career as a School Librarian for the Meister Rd. School in Lorain, she then worked as a waitress at the Roman Room, Lorain. She was among the first group of women to be hired at the Lorain Ford Plant in 1978 where she worked until graduating from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1982. She then worked as a private nurse for 13 years. She retired in 2007 as a LPN from the Inn at Chapel Creek, Vermilion. Vema had attended Beacon Baptist Church, Lorain. She enjoyed planting and tending to her gardens, canning, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, crocheting, and playing the piano. She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Barry) Hignett of Lorain; Kimberly (Mark) Mignano of Vermilion; and, Jazzlyn Ortiz-Flannery of Vermilion; sons, John (Lori) Flannery of Milan and James Flannery of Vermilion; 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel E. Flannery in 1995; daughter, Cynthia Graver in 2016; parents, Hearold and Jesse (nee Hurd) Dancy; and her brothers, Curtis and Franky Dancy. The family will receive friends on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2017 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend Aaron Webb will officiate. Interment will follow at Peaks Cemetery, Berlin Township.
