Vaughn Ottis Gilhousen, age 78, of Pine Creek Twp., Jefferson Co., Pa., passed away in the comfort of his home on Friday, Jan. 6, 2017. Vaughn was born on Oct. 25, 1938, to the late Ottis Clayton and Eleanor R. (Shaffer) Gilhousen, in Rimersburg, Pa. On Jan. 17, 1962, Vaughn married Elaine (Kahle) Gilhousen, in Knox Dale, Pa.; Elaine preceded him in passing on June 25, 2008. Vaughn spent a few years serving his country as a member of the United States Air Force, and he was honorably discharged. He spent his entire career, which was 34 years, working for National Fuel; he retired as a well tender at the age of 58. Vaughn was a lifetime member of the Knox Dale Sportsman's Club, and he was also a member of the National Rifle Association, and the Firemen's Club in Brookville, Pa. He loved to hunt and fish, and really anything that involved the outdoors he would participate in. He enjoyed taking his side-by-side for rides, and he loved having a good time; he never acted his age and he was always the life of the party. He loved watching baseball and he was a huge Pirates fan. Vaughn kept all the stats of the games he watched whether it was Major League Baseball or little league down at the Brookville ball fields; he just loved the game. He also loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he was very proud of the many sets of twins that his family and extended family have. Vaughn is survived by six children: Christine (Denny) Popson, Robin (Ralph Juart) Park, Steve (Brenda) Gilhousen, Brenda (Eric) Wolfe, Linda Lasher, Cherry Wolfe; one sister, Patricia (Tom) Breakey; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, Vaughn is preceded in death by his brother, Darius Wayne Gilhousen, and an infant brother. Family and friends will be received from 2- 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 8, 2017, at the McKinney–d'Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825. A second opportunity for viewing will take place on Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at the Brookville Church of God, 201 Freedom Lane, Brookville, PA 15825, from 9:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. A funeral service will immediately follow the second viewing at the church, beginning at 11 a.m., and officiated by Pastor Henry Scoff. Interment will take place at the Center Hill Cemetery, Knox Twp., Jefferson Co. Pa.
