T.r. "Shag" Holliday
T.R. "SHAG" HOLLIDAY HENDERSON, KENTUCKY T.R. "Shag" Holliday, 91, of Henderson, Kentucky, passed away at 7:32 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2017, at St. Anthony's Hospice Lucy Smith King Care Center. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran having served as First Sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division where he received numerous decorations and citations including two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star and special recognition from Belgium. A lifelong builder and developer, Shag was responsible for naming 18 streets and developing Frontier Village, Indian Hills, Shenandoah Place, and many others. He also built Doc Holliday's Saloon and Sugar Creek Inn. He was a charter member of the Henderson Lions Club and was a Kentucky Colonel and an Admiral in the Kentucky Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marijohn "Johnnie" Holliday, who died August 8, 1996; his son, Mark Holliday, who died May 10, 2010; four sisters; and one brother. Survivors include his son, Mike "Doc" Holliday and his wife, Jo, of Henderson, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Leslie Abbott and her husband, Dino, Chad Holliday and his wife, Kate, Mary Ellen Holliday, Libby Joyner and her husband, Randy, and Tyler Holliday; nine great-grandchildren, Madison, John, Grant, and Reagan Abbott, Alex and Samantha Holliday, Harper Scott, and Trey and Charlie Joyner; nieces and nephews. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rudy-Rowland Funeral Home. The Reverend Ted Burke will officiate. Entombment will be in Fairmont Cemetery Mausoleum with full military rites performed by American Legion Worsham Post No. 40. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the New Hope Animal Rescue Center or St. Anthony's Hospice.
