Tommie Jay Simpson
SIMPSON Tommie Jay Tommie Jay Simpson, 72, of Ypsilanti MI, died after a long battle with cancer on October 12, 2016. Tommie was born in Stearns, KY on June 14, 1944 to Carl Sr. and Mattie (Stigall) Simpson. When Tommie was a young man the family relocated to Michigan where he attended high school. Tommie joined the army shortly after graduation and served his country, leading to an honorable discharge in 1967. Tommie married Ora Lee (Anderson) on February 18, 1967 and had two children, Stacy Noel (of Kalamazoo, MI) and Aaron Simpson (of Ypsilanti, MI.) Tommie was employed by the Toledo Blade newspaper from 1971 through his retirement in 2007. Tommie is survived by Ora Lee, Stacy Noel and Aaron Jay Simpson; brothers and sisters, Carl Jr. (Lucy), Elizabeth (Walter) Pitchford, Patricia Simpson, Mary (Ken Sabin) Hunt, and Eulas (Diana) Simpson. He was predeceased by Carl Sr. and Mattie, along with brothers, Kenneth and Roger and his sister, Bobbie. Tommie leaves brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Bessie Campbell, Jim Vann, Sandra Collins, Larry and Terry Cones, and Brenda Morgan. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews and one special great-niece, Taylor McQueen, along with a host of extended family and dear friends. Visitation for family and friends will take place on Friday, October 21, 2016 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the C & H Community for funerals, Lucille Chapel, at 411 S. Adams, Ypsilanti, MI. On Saturday, October 22, 2016, Family Hour will be held from 10 a.m. with the funeral service at 11 am at the New Hope Baptist Church, 218 Chapin St., Ann Arbor, MI, 48103.
