MENDON, Ill. -- Todd Gregory Turner, 23, of Iowa City, Iowa, and formerly of Adams County, Ill., died Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, in Iowa City after a battle with depression. Todd loved everyone with his whole heart, and there was a warmth to his soul that radiated through his smile. He so enjoyed helping others and even animals, especially if they were in need. Todd was a brilliant man with so much compassion and potential. Todd was born Nov. 26, 1992, in Quincy, Ill., to Greg Turner and Amy Schmitt. Todd was a 2011 graduate of Iowa City High School, where he proudly played on the Little Hawks state championship football team of 2009 and runner up in 2010. Todd had many great friends wherever he went. Todd loved being with friends and family. He enjoyed the outdoors -- fishing, and riding four-wheelers with his brothers. He was a fantastic athlete, and he was very passionate about sports. He had a wonderful heart and empathy for others. Todd loved to see people smile with his wonderful sense of humor. Todd is survived by his father, Greg Turner (Tammy) of Iowa City, Iowa; and his mother, Amy Schmitt (Bobby Johnston) of rural Ralls County, Mo.; five siblings, Seth Bruenger of Loraine, Ill., Tuck Bruenger of rural Ralls County, Mo., Drake Johnston of Hannibal, Mo., and James Turner and Morgan Turner, both of Iowa City, Iowa; grandparents, Larry and Linda Schmitt of Colchester, Ill., Juanita and Ron Broaddus of Hannibal, Mo., Jack and Doris Turner of Boise, Idaho, and Jim and Mary Kempf of Columbia, Mo.; his uncle, Eric Schmitt (Carri) and cousins, Madalyn and Owen Schmitt, all of Hudson, Ill.; his aunt, Kathy Burriesci (Mark) and cousins, Luke, Ava and Jace, all of Boise, Idaho; and great-aunt, Karen Goodwin of Rockport, Ill. He will be missed by many friends in Iowa City, Macomb, Ill., Mendon, Ill., and rural Ralls County, Mo. SERVICES: 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 14, at Adiel Baptist Church, rural Ralls County, Mo., with the Rev. Dustin Gilbert conducting. Burial will be in Brice Cemetery, Frankford. Pallbearers will be Tucker Bruenger, Seth Bruenger, James Turner, Kameron Tucker, James Taylor and Drake Johnston. Honorary pallbearers will be T.J. Hilgenbrink, Seth Browning, Michael Shriver and Mark Burriesci. VISITATION: Noon to 2 p.m. Friday before services at James O'Donnell Funeral Home, Hannibal.
