Thomas L. Reese
Thomas L. Reese, 78, Veedersburg, passed away in the IU Health Arnett Hospital, Lafayette, on Thursday, Dec. 1, 2016 at 3:22 p.m. Tom was born in Warren County, Indiana on May 22, 1938. He was the son of the late Benjamin Lee and Thelma Louise (Mickle) Reese. He was raised in Attica, graduating from Attica High School in 1956. After graduating from high school, Tom worked for Harrison Steel Castings Co. in Attica, later working for Indiana Bell. Tom also worked for R.R. Donnelly & Sons in Crawfordsville as a machine bookbinder. In 1967, he entered the Indiana College of Mortuary Science in Indianapolis and received his Associates Degree in Funeral Service in 1968. He served as a funeral director for Conkle Funeral Home in Speedway and later with Paul Sever at Sever Mortuary in Veedersburg and Hanover. He also assisted with Parham and Dickerson Funeral Homes in Veedersburg and DeVerter Funeral Home in Covington. In 1974, Tom attended and graduated from the Indiana Barber College of Indianapolis, later opening shops in Waynetown and then Veedersburg, He was self employed for over 40 years Tom and his late wife Diane opened the Blue & Gold Pizza on Main Street in Veedersburg in 1983. In 1982 Tom worked as a sub-rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Veedersburg and New Ross and in 1988 accepted a full time position as a rural carrier in New Ross until his retirement in 2005. Tom was an active member of the Veedersburg Lions Club for almost 10 years. He was a behind-the-scenes worker, along with his wife with the Veedersburg Booster Club for many years. He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association. Tom enjoyed his leather repair shop repairing shoes, purses and anything leather his friends or family brought to him. He enjoyed spending his spare time tinkering with old cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his customers, listening to stories, as he cut their hair. On March 7, 1958, Tom married Lois Diane Fletcher in Sterling. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2008. Tom leaves behind six children, Debra Gee, Terre Haute; Dawn (Rick) Throckmorton, Martinsville; Dee Kelley, Terre Haute; Dana VanNess, Veedersburg; Donna (Gary) Suits, Camby and Michael (Dackie) Reese, Terre Haute; 17 grandchildren, Joshua Kelley, Jonathan (Heather) Kelley, Patrick Bacon, Dani Billings, Jordan Gee, Ben and Zac VanNess all of Terre Haute; Ashley Kelley, Nebraska; Jessica Gee, Covington; Mallorey (Adam) Lundy, Indianapolis; Miranda (Andrew) Beaver, Shoals; and Kaleb (Becky) Throckmorton, Martinsville; Abby, Brittny and Cody Reese, Florida; Hailey and Hanna Suits, Camby; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marjorie Howard, Williamsport; Juanita Wurtsbaugh, Veedersburg and Annabelle (Steve) Ward, Fort Worth, Texas. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald, Robert and Larry Reese along with an infant sister, Mary Lou Reese. Services were Dec. 5 at the Maus Funeral Home in Attica with Rev. Richard Throckmorton officiating. Committal and entombment services were held on Tuesday, Dec. 6 in the Rose Lawn Cemetery, Terre Haute.
