Thomas M. Potash
1962 - 2016 Thomas M. Potash, a resident of New York City and South Egremont, MA, passed away suddenly of cardiac failure at his South Egremont home on October 15th. Born in Pittsfield, MA October 8th, 1962, the son of Mrs. Eileen K. Potash of Scarsdale, NY and Francis Potash (deceased), he was a graduate of St. Agnes School, St. Joseph High School, Nichols College and Baruch College. He had his own practice as a CFO/Controller for small and medium businesses. Tom was a devoted and loving husband, father, son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend, an avid ice hockey player and enthusiastic cyclist. He passed on his love of hockey to his children who faithfully joined him on rinks too numerous to count, and over two decades coached dozens of school and travel soccer and hockey teams. Tom is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Chambers, and his three daughters, Grace M., Audrey E., and Katharine A. Potash, all at home. Also surviving are his mother and siblings: Frank Potash (Alan Krantzler) of NY, NY and Marlborough, MA; Patricia Potash of Philadelphia, PA; Anne Reis (Dr. Andrew) of Cooperstown, NY; Eileen M. Potash (Wayne Guay) of Philadelphia, PA; Kathleen Potash (Vladimir Alonso) of Montvale, NJ; and John Potash (Christine L. Rittner) of Ballston Spa, NY. One sister, Maureen Potash predeceased him. He leaves brothers-in-law Robert Chambers (Alice) of West Palm Beach FL, Michael Chambers of Portland OR, and sister-in-law Carol Collins (Robert) of South Salem NY, in addition to ten nieces and nephews and two great-nieces. His warmth and quiet wit-most especially his outrageous puns--will be missed by all.
Services will be held at St. Michael's Church, West 99th Street and Amsterdam Avenue; there will be a memorial gathering at the church on Thursday, October 20th at 5:30PM and a funeral on Friday, October 21st at 4:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's name to "Ice Hockey in Harlem" so that deserving young hockey players can enjoy the sport he loved so much.
