In memory of
Thomas D. Metevia
Metevia, Mr. Thomas D., Tawas, Michigan Former Saginaw Resident Loving and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather rejoined his beloved wife Loretta on Wednesday, October 12, 2016. Age 88 years. Dad died on a bright, sunny autumn day. His whole life was like that. Dad gave to others far more than he took and his life made the world a better place to everyone around him. The son of the late Isadore and Rose (Cartier) Metevia, Tom was born August 23, 1928 in Carrollton, Michigan. His optimistic outlook, dedication to duty and principles and strong work ethic served as the standard for Tom's family. His life was more full and productive than anyone we ever knew. Tom sure enjoyed wood working, his roses and taking care of the yard. He lived to see his example be an inspiration to his children and grandchildren to attain professional degrees. We owe him most for teaching us how to love one another. Dad gave generously all of his life. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II and after the war worked numerous jobs to support his seven children. Gatherings at Tom & Loretta's cottage at Point Look Out were legendary events for all. The lake was the center of Metevia family life. His 45 years of enduring love with Loretta (Zacharias) Metevia, who predeceased him, made him happy and satisfied. They captured love and life's enjoyment in being together and fishing, both here and in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Tom was employed by the City of Saginaw and retired from the Saginaw Police Department first as a lieutenant and then as a custodian for the police department. Tom and Loretta then moved up to AuGres where he had built the cottage many years before, and they settled into Northern life. Surviving are three daughters and four sons, Sharon and Brandt Driscoll, Ooltewah Tennessee; Barry and Peggy Metevia, Hartland, Wisconsin; Barbara and Dr. Devendra Sharma, with whom he made his home, Tawas; Richard Metevia, Tawas; Sue and Dave Heath, California; William Metevia, California; Paul and Jennifer Metevia, Saginaw; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; Tom's special caregiver, Peggy Harper; a nephew, Richard (Pat) Metevia; and many nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Clifford, Ike, Robert, Duane, Andrew and Noah Metevia, and by his sisters, Stella Maciejewski, Eleanor Glasby, Leona Paulus and Elizabeth Hart. A committal service and entombment took place at St. Andrew Mausoleum in Saginaw. Bishop Joseph Cistone presided with Rev. Fr. James Bessert and Rev. Fr. Richard Bokinskie attending. In Tom's memory and by his example, just take the time to love and cherish your family.
