Thomas Wayne Kempf Kokomo - Thomas Wayne Kempf, 84, formerly of Crawfordsville, went to be with his Lord on Monday morning in Kokomo. Born February 7, 1933 in Delphi he was the son of the late Paul and Margaret (Long) Kempf. He married Ruby M. Hathaway at Delphi on February 28, 1954. She preceded him in death on May 21, 2006. He graduated from Delphi High School, class of 1951. He later attended Bob Jones University and Taylor University. Thomas served his country in the United States Army from 1955 to 1957. He worked for Alcoa prior to being employed by Indiana Gas (now Vectren), retiring in 1998. He later worked for CVS. Having been a member of Kossuth St. Baptist Church in Lafayette, Friendship Baptist Church and East Side Baptist Church in Crawfordsville, he was very active as the song leader and choir director as well as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher. He enjoyed being with his family, reading, playing badminton and was a sports fan, especially Purdue. Surviving family members include: his daughter Sue (David) Atkisson of Kokomo, sons Jerry (Cec) Kempf of Crawfordsville, Joel Kempf of Denver, Colorado, daughter Dawn (Joe) Hieston of Crawfordsville; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother. Funeral services with military rites will be 3:00PM Saturday, January 13 at East Side Baptist Church officiated by Pastor Steve Whicker along with son Joel Kempf. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 1:00PM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
