Thomas C. Henneberger
Thomas C. Henneberger Age: 86 • Charlotte Thomas C Henneberger, a long time resident of Charlotte, Vermont, died on January 7 at the Vermont Medical Center in Burlington of natural causes. He was 86 years old Born in Caldwell, New Jersey, he attended Caldwell public schools and Montclair Academy. He graduated Cum Laude with a BS in Electronic Engineering from Princeton University, from which he also received his Masters. He began his profesional life at Bell Laboratories He later joined RCA Aerospace and then RCA Laboratories working on Defense R&D projects. In 1962 he joined the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Reserve Officer. In charge of Regional Technical Centers, he served in both Beirut and Frankfurt before returning to Washington to be in charge of Research and Development. He later joined defense contractor Melpar and then JHF Associates, a security consulting firm, before becoming a program manager at the U.S. Immigration Service concerned with monitoring the U.S. southern border. He then transferred to the U.S. Customs Service, working on radar systems for military aircraft carrying out the Customs mission. In 1974 he married Patricia Smith, whom he met on assignment in Frankfurt. Both retired in 1993 and relocated to Charlotte, Vermont. After Pat's death in 2008, he continued to live in Charlotte until his death. He is survived by his sister Nancy Henneberger Matthews of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Missoula, Montana; her children John Matthews of Lyon, France, Timothy Matthews of Leonardtown Maryland, Elizabeth Matthews Johns of Woodville, Virginia; and ten grand nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at the Charlotte Congregational Church in the spring and his ashes will be laid to rest next to those of his beloved wife Pat.
