Thomas Fred Brown died on April 16, 2017 at Presbyterian Hospital after several months of declining health. He was born on February 5, 1945 in Atlanta, GA to the late Louise Sumner Brown and Laurel Wesley Brown. Fred graduated from Georgia Military College and The University of Georgia with a Master's degree in Psychology. He also was a graduate of The Defense Language Institute in El Paso Texas and served two years with the Army in Vietnam. His first assignment in Vietnam was working in intelligence gathering with the Signal Corps. During that time he was awarded The Bronze Star for "Meritorious Achievement in Ground Operations Against Hostile Forces". His second assignment was the planning and development of mental health programs dealing with addictions for US soldiers. After he returned from Vietnam in 1972 he moved to Charlotte and continued in that field helping to establish drug treatment programs for Mecklenburg County and the state of North Carolina. An early love of photography went from an advocation to a business when he formed his own company in 1979. For 30 years, TFB Company provided aerial and ground photography for the construction industry in Charlotte and along the East coast. Mr. Brown was a member of the North Charlotte Rotary Club where he had perfect attendance for 30 years. Fred is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lila Laxton Brown; brother, Wesley Chris Brown and his family of Twin City, GA; aunt, Jean S. Jones and several cousins and their families in Atlanta, GA. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church 11 a.m. Thursday, April 20 with a reception to follow in The Blue Room.
