Thomas E. Brennan
Thomas E. Brennan passed away on Monday, Feb. 6, 2017, at the age of 87. He was a resident of The Meadows in Rutland. Tom was preceded in death by his wife, "Gerry," in 2013. It is very difficult to try to convey Tom's very unique personality and passions into a few lines. An avid movie watcher, he enjoyed John Wayne, Sherlock Homes and "Sheena Queen of the Jungle." "Sheena" was a favorite movie reel of his when he was a teenager and may have contributed to his leaving Mount St. Joseph Academy before graduation and enlisting in the Air Force. Tom was a Staff Sargent in the Air Force and a member of SAC in Europe in the Korean War. Tom and Gerry were married on Oct. 17, 1953, at Christ the King in Rutland. They loved to tour the Vermont countryside always searching for a new eatery or diner. Tom was employed as a machinist for Tambrands for over 30 years. Every spring, Tom planted a large vegetable garden and tried without success to keep his apple trees "worm free." He loved playing with his three daughters, teaching them to swim, playing cribbage, building backyard tents and neighborhood whiffle ball games. He never believed in allowances or financial rewards, he always stressed your actions build your character. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Trono and her husband, Dick, of Rutland, Carol Pinney and her husband, David, of Rutland, Jean Brennan, of Mount Holly; seven grandchildren, Jason Adams, Tom Adams, Joseph Trono, Anne Trono, Sarah Pinney, Robert Pinney and Serenity Pinney. He was predeceased by a daughter, Anne Terese Brennan. Burial will be held in Calvary Cemetery in the spring. Arrangements are under the direction of the Clifford Funeral Home. At Tom's request, there will be no calling hours. All friends and family are encouraged to celebrate Tom's passion by taking a ride to your favorite country diner. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Rutland County Humane Society under the name of "Earl."
