July 27, 1927 - October 11, 2016 Theresa Jo Ann George, 89 of Mountain Brook AL. passed away on October 11, 2016. Mrs. George was a graduate of Phillips High School, class of 1946. Mrs. George, known to her family members as "MeMa", was famous for her Lebanese cooking and Italian cookies. Mrs. George was President of the Cedar's Club, President of the Saint Ann's Guild, President of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary in Bessemer, AL., and Vice President of the Maria Teresa Lodge. Mrs. George was a devoted Catholic and a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, saying the rosary and novena every day. Mrs. George was a loving wife, devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. George spent twenty-five years assisting her husband with managing a family owned grocery store. Mrs. George was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Ben A. George (the love of her life), parents Joe and Rose Azbik, Sr. and Michael J. George (son). Mrs. George is survived by her brother Joe (Frances), sons Benny (Kathy), Joseph (Kim) and Anthony (Connie). Mrs. George's grandchildren include Natalie, Benjamin (Lauren), Jonathan, Michael, Ashley, Courtney, with great grandchildren, Alexander and Riley. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 9:00am-11:00am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, followed by a Mass in the Cathedral. Funeral procession and service will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1728 Oxmoor Road, Homewood, AL. 35209.
