In memory of
LAMAR – Thelma L. Hunter, 88, passed away on Jan. 10, 2017, at Brookside Village in Jasper, surrounded by family. Thelma was born on July 21, 1928, in Newtonville to the late John and Lola Mae (Quick) Smith. Thelma was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Lamar, a graduate of Chrisney High School, member of the Santa Claus American Legion Auxiliary and Daughters of the American Revolution. She retired from General Electric in Tell City. Thelma loved playing cards, puzzles, cooking, golfing, traveling and most especially spending time with family and friends. She was a loving wife, mother, mama and friend, who touched the heart of everyone she met. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents, husband; Harold L. Hunter who passed away on August 2007, brothers: Elmer Smith and Don Smith. Thelma is survived by her six children, Larry Hunter of Lamar, Randy Robyn) Hunter of Indianapolis, Kathy (Mark) Ruxer of St. Meinrad, Kristy (Dan) Jochim of Mariah Hill, Kevin (Becky) Hunter of Lamar, Julie (Kevin) Gellert of Clayton; 15 grandchildren, Holli, Neil, Lucas, Ryan, and Chelsea Hunter, Clint, Courtney Ruxer, Brooke (Ruxer) Gray, Brent, Reid, Evan Jochim, Amber (Jochim) Tucker, Allison (Hunter) Voges, Austin Hunter, Davis, Drew Gellert, also 15 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Lottes of Jasper, Yvonne Sisley of Grandview; brother, Darrell (Karen) Pennington of Lamar. Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 13, from 3 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter's United Church of Christ in Lamar, and Saturday from 9 a.m. till time of service. Services are 10 A.M. Saturday, Jan. 14, at St. Peter's United Church of Christ with Pastor Chip Morley-Jahn officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gentryville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Harold and Thelma Hunter Scholarship Foundation through Spencer County Community Foundation or St. Peter's United Church of Christ.
