ELIZAN--Professor Teresita Siguenza, M.D., was born in Naga City, Philippines, on December 12, 1931 and died in New York City on October 12, 2016. She was one of the most outstanding international neurologists. After graduation from the University of the Philippines in Medicine, she joined the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) as a Consultant Neurologist in the Naval Hospital, Guam from 1951-1963. After specializing in The UK and Canada she joined the staff of the Neurology Department of The Mount Sinai School of Medicine of the City University of New York, NY (USA), where she opened the first US neurovirology laboratory and became the youngest woman professor, working as a clinician, a teacher and researcher from 1968 until her retirement in 1993. Dr. Elizan published 87 scientific articles in highly respected journals, loved the arts, music, literature, tennis and traveling and was cherished by friends and colleagues. She leaves behind a niece, grandnieces and grandnephews, two sisters and many devoted friends.
