Sylvia (Brockman) Maness 1930—2016 Sylvia (Brockman) Maness, 86, of Rockford went to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday, October 13, 2016. Born August 2, 1930, in Rockford; the only child of Harry and Ida (Schmidt) Brockman. Sylvia began a lifelong love of her Christian faith at St. Paul Lutheran Church and continued deepening her commitment through involvement in various faith based organizations and churches. Sylvia's involvement with First Assembly and Phoenix First nurtured her continued growth in her love for Jesus. Sylvia married the love of her life, a young Southern gentleman, Charles Maness on March 18, 1951 - the date also selected by her parents and grandparents for their weddings (also at St. Paul). Sylvia and Charlie considered their marriage truly blessed and expanded their family in 1960 with the adoption of their two children, Bradley and Renee. The couple embarked on a business journey in 1973, by opening the first of four locations of a women's clothing store known as Sylvia's Fashions. After Charles went home to the Lord in 2000, Sylvia continued to oversee her business until declining health forced her retirement and the closing of Sylvia's Fashions. Sylvia is survived by her daughter, Renee Heinen (Dave Crew); son, Bradley (Darlene) Maness; grandchildren, Michele Crew, Sasha (Cole) Maness, and Jacob Maness; her family in North Carolina, Betsy, Judy, Kino (Deb), Wilma, Patterson boys, Joan, and the Poe family. Sylvia will be missed by her extended family, the staff of Sylvia's Fashions; the girlfriends known as the "Glory Girls"; and her many other friends, including the potluck group founded over 60 years ago. A very special thank you to her companions, Sue and Virginia. Sylvia relied on daily scripture readings and found particular strength in Psalm 46:10 "Be Still and Know that I am God." Memorial service to celebrate her life will be 11 a.m. Saturday October 15, 2016, in Delehanty Funeral Home. Sylvia's favorite "preacher cousin" Leroy Joesten and Pastor Bob Taylor will officiate. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are being directed to Goldie B. Floberg Center, 58 W. Rockton Rd., Rockton, IL 61072. For more information, visit DelehantyFH.com .
