Cornett, Susan Diane Susan Diane Cornett passed away from cancer on October 7, 2016, at the age of 72. She was born in Orange, CA on May 29, 1944 to Art and Norma Eggers (nee Craft). Growing up in Orange, she attended St. John's Lutheran Church and St. John's Lutheran School. She graduated from Orange High School in 1962 and attended U.C. Santa Barbara and then Cal. State Fullerton where she majored in elementary school education. Later, she earned her M.A. degree in Education and subsequently continued her studies in specialized areas of teaching. She met the love of her life, Lee Cornett, at Orange High School and they continued dating through the following three years of high school and four years of college. Susan and Lee married on June 24, 1966 and shortly thereafter she began her teaching career. Early in their marriage they took four months away from their careers to camp their way through Europe before returning to Orange to start their family. This sparked their lifelong desire to travel and later in life they visited many areas of the world. She deferred her teaching career to raise their two sons until she felt they were old enough for her to return to teaching. For 27 years, Sue taught primarily 2nd grade in the Orange Unified School District where she was a Master Teacher and Mentor Teacher. She was an extremely dedicated, gifted and inspirational teacher who loved her students and, in return, was loved by her students. Throughout her life and teaching career, Susan had a passion for art and she experimented with many types of media. After retiring, she had time to start taking art and sketching lessons, which she loved, and through which she met many new and wonderful friends. Retirement also gave her time to take up golf which she thoroughly enjoyed. Susan was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter RQ and held many offices including President. Susan is survived by her husband of 50 years, Lee Cornett; her brother, John Eggers and his wife Jeanette Eggers; her son, Jake Cornett M.D. and his wife Kris Cornett; her son, Ben Cornett M.D. and his wife Susan Cornett; and four grandchildren: Joel, Dean, Ella and Owen. All of us will miss her very much every day of our lives. A Memorial Service celebrating Susan will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church at 185 S. Center St. in Orange on October 24, 2016, at 11:30 A.M. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Margaret G. Cornett scholarship fund or a cancer research institute of your choice.
