In memory of
Susan Elizabeth Adkins May 31, 1959 - October 9, 2016 Sue was born and lived her entire life in Modesto. She was the daughter of Stan & Fran Adkins. She grew up in a loving home with her brother, Steve. She attended Hart Ransom Elementary and Modesto High School. Sue taught 9 years at Paradise Elementary & 27 years at Sam Vaughn Elementary in Ceres. A diagnosis of terminal lung cancer caused her early retirement in 2014. Teaching was her passion and her aspiration as a teenager leading her to become an Instructional Aide at St. Stanislaus Elementary. She continued that job while attending Modesto Jr. College & Stanislaus State Univ. She earned her credential through the Univ. of S.F. We witnessed her strong, courageous & steadfast demeanor during her 15 month battle. She had a tender heart for children & animals. Sue was a member of the Wood Colony 4-H Club, raising & showing her lamb & rabbit; also a member of the Pony of America Club with her Appaloosa Pony, Star. She loved music; the guitar was her instrument of choice. Her kindness & witty sense of humor will be missed by those who knew her best. Sue left this earth as she lived-never complaining, putting others before herself. We treasure the time we had with you, dear Sue, but heartbroken that it ended far too soon. Sue was preceded in death by her father and brother. She is survived by her mother, her partner of 36 years, Cheryl Hedgpeth and her daughter, Rachele & husband, Dennis Krum, and nephew, Chanse Franco. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 19th at 5:00pm at the Modesto Church of the Brethren, 2301 Woodland Ave., Modesto, CA. Remembrances may be made to Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way, Modesto, CA 95356 or Modesto Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund, 2301 Woodland Ave., Modesto, CA 95358 www.cvobituaries.com
