In memory of
Sue Carol Zagars
Sue Carol Zagars 1945-2017 Sue Carol Zagars born September 9, 1945 in Wagga Wagga New South Wales Australia passed away Friday, April 14, 2017 in Houston, TX after a prolonged struggle with kidney failure. After graduating from Secretarial College she pursued her passion for travel and in the 1960s lived for a time in New Zealand, London England, Johannesburg South Africa and Hong Kong. In 1974 she married and thereafter devoted herself to raising her family. After moving to Houston in 1984 she continued managing family affairs. She closely supervised her son's struggle with leukemia during the 1980s. She developed an intense interest in Central Asian rugs and textiles and visited Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan: she built up a fine collection of outstanding pieces. For many years she was the librarian of the Textile and Oriental Rug Club of Houston and served as its president for a term. Sue's love for travel was expressed in the many adventurous trips she took with her husband to some of the most exotic of places. She was remarkable for her care, compassion generosity, love and her gregarious and affable nature with the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and was loved for her concern for those she knew. Sue was predeceased by her son Julian and is survived by her husband of 43 years Dr. Gunar Zagars, daughter Belinda, son Edward, grandchildren Josephine, Gabriella, Andrew, Paul, Ephraim, her brother Ian and other more distant relatives in Australia.
