Sue Kathryn (Joyce) Grist
Grist, Sue Kathryn (Joyce) 97, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2017. She was born July 8, 1919, in Greenwood, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lem Albert Joyce and Josie Olivia (Bolin) Joyce; sister, Betty Ruth Joyce; and six brothers, L.A., Roger, Louis, Roy, Joe, and Richard. Sue is survived by a daughter, Joyce Evans, and son-in-law, George P. Evans of Lawrence, Kansas; and is also survived by three grandchildren, Mary Price of Elkridge, Maryland, Sarah Curtis of Hager City, Wisconsin, Jeff Evans of Berkeley, California, and six great-grandchildren. Sue graduated from Greenwood High School in Arkansas and attended Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway, Arkansas. She also taught English at Greenwood, Arkansas, Junior High School. Sue inspected planes during World War II for Beech Aircraft. She joined College Hill United Methodist Church June 8, 1947 and became a member of Double Circle Sunday School Class, and she also became a special life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service at College Hill. She also had belonged to Twentieth Century Club and was past president of the Wichita Association of Attorney's Wives and past chairman for Project Beauty. Funeral Service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2017, at College Hill United Methodist Church. Burial will be at Greenwood, Arkansas. The family would like to thank staff at Via Christi McLean, Catholic Care Center (the Meadows and Sunflower Lane), and Good Shepherd Hospice for their loving care and attention.
