BOURLAND, Sue Jane Sue Jane Timken Bourland passed away peacefully with her family by her side on April 9, 2017, in Round Rock. She was 83 years young. Sue was born on December 9, 1933, in St.Francis, Kansas to Joe and Ruby Timken. She graduated from high school in Stillwater, Oklahoma in 1951, where she was selected to serve as "Pioneer Queen", a top honor among students. She attended Oklahoma A&M, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and where she met the love of her life, William "Bill" Bourland of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Sue and Bill met on a blind date in 1953 and married 4 months later; they had been together 63 years at the time of Sue's death. Sue and Bill had 2 sons, Mike and Greg. Bill served in the United State Air Force for 24 years, which meant the family lived in various places such as Guam and many locations throughout the U.S. They called San Marcos home for 10 years beginning in 1974. Sue had a great attitude about the frequent moves and always told her family, "Home is where you make it." Sue dedicated her life to her family and was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend. She supported Bill's career as well as her sons and their activities by attending sports functions, concerts, and serving as Cub Scout den mother. She frequently volunteered at local hospitals, gifts shops, and other civic organizations. Later in life, she especially loved being "Mimi" to her two granddaughters, whom she spoiled at every opportunity. She enjoyed many social activities, such as playing bridge and bunco with her friends and family. And Sue made dessert a priority at almost every meal, humorously proclaiming, "A bad cookie is better than no cookie". She had a quick and wry sense of humor and kept her family laughing, even during her final days. Sue is preceded in death by her parents, son Mike Bourland, and sister Pat Purdue. Sue is survived by her husband Bill, son Greg, daughters-in-law Cindy Alexander Bourland and Cindy Olson Bourland, and her granddaughters Chelsea and Lexie Bourland. She is also survived by her three nephews, Steve, Mark and Scott Ingham and their families. Last, but not least, she leaves behind her beloved chihuahua, Cricket. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in the name of Sue Bourland to New Century Hospice Round Rock, 2851 Joe DiMaggio Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665, or to Hearthstone Health and Rehabilitation Center, 512.388.7494. Obituary and memorial guestbook are available online at . A memorial service will be held at Palm Valley Lutheran Church in Round Rock on Monday, April 17, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. 2500 E. Palm Valley Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665.
