Stewart Charles Barnett Jr.
Barnett Jr., Stewart Charles 97, lived in Jackson MI for 53 years. He passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017. Stewart was born September 10, 1919 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to Stewart Charles Barnett, Sr. and Leah Cole Barnett. He married Ruth Moore in 1942. Their children include Cynthia (Stuart) McKenzie, Robert (Vicki) and John (Helene). Ruth passed away in 1993 after 51 years of marriage. Their grandchildren include Theodore, and Katherine (Stephen) Spranger, parents of great grandchildren Maxwell and Miles. Stewart married Anne B. Dwyer in 1994. They were married for 23 years. Her children include Elizabeth "Betsy" (Russell C., Jr) Youngdahl, Martha (Mark) McHugh, and Laura (William) Schlecte. Grandchildren include Lauren (Blake) Snyder, Leslie Youngdahl, Neil Youngdahl, Molly McHugh, Jacqueline Austin and Ted (Dani) Austin. Great grandchildren include Elizabeth and Ethan Snyder. Mr. Barnett was a Professional Engineer, graduate of Drexel Institute of Technology, in Structural Engineering, June 1948 after serving in the United States Army during WWII. He came to Jackson MI in 1964 joining Commonwealth Associates. Later he was chief engineer for the GM engine assembly plant in Saltillo, MX. He traveled to Iran, Kuwait, France, England, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Greece, and later to Norway. He was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and the State of Michigan Barrier Free Design Board. Stewart was a life-long sailor, boat owner, race director for Clark Lake Yacht club, Scout, and loved all his family very much. He had a great sense of humor and loved parties including dancing to 1940s music. He suffered from partial deafness most of his life but it never stopped him from fully caring or communicating with everyone around him. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 10:30 A.M., Father Timothy MacDonald officiating. According to Stewart's wishes, cremation will follow. Memorial contributions may be sent to Queen of the Miraculous Medal Catholic Church, 1111 Carlton Blvd., Jackson, MI 49203 Visitation will be held at Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson on Friday, January 13, from 4:00 -8:00 P.M. and Saturday at the church from 10:00 until the time of Mass.
