Stephen M. Nerbecki
Stephen M. Nerbecki, of Plains Township, passed away on Oct. 13, 2016, at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Kingston, he was the son of the late Stephen and Irene Nerbecki, of Plains Township. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart School in Plains Township, and Luzerne County Community College, where he received a degree in drafting. Stephen was employed at Wyoming Seminary Lower School as a maintenance foreman for 32 years. He also served as a trustee, treasurer and faithful member of the Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral, Wilkes-Barre. His passion was music and he was an expert drummer who played in many local bands. Stephen loved traveling and was an avid gardener. A jack of all trades, he was a true handy-man who loved fixing things. He always lent his crafty hands and professional expertise to anyone, at anytime. Stephen was a devoted and loving husband, as well as a dedicated father to his three children and four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Irene Nerbecki. Survived by his wife of 44 years, Gloria (Dulsky) Nerbecki; daughters, Chandra (Nerbecki) Galliford and her husband, James Galliford, Christina (Nerbecki) Sappe and her husband, Ben Sappe; son, Stephen J. Nerbecki; grandchildren, Jessica and Jonathan Sims, Carleigh and Sean Galliford; brothers, Bernard Nerbecki and companion, Theresa Szulewski, and Robert Nerbecki, and wife, Susan; and godchild, Kristen Nerbecki; and his entire extended family. Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday at the Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, followed by Requiem Services at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Resurrection Orthodox Cathedral with the Very Rev. Timothy Cremeens, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the Orthodox section of Fern Knoll Burial Park, Dallas. Family and friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Parastas service will be held at 6 p.m.
