Stephen Carl McDonald was born on Dec. 15, 1958, in Klamath Falls, Ore. He attended Klamath Union High School and graduated in 1978. He took some courses at Wenatchee Valley Community College. He worked for his grandfather's hardware store as he was going up. He was very proud of being an Eagle Scout. Stephen served in the Army at Ft. Sills, Okla., and was honorably discharged in 1979. Stephen enjoyed quilting and was involved with Pelican Piecemakers. He enjoyed HO model trains. He loved Christmas. His house was always a must-see stop on the Christmas lights route in Klamath Falls. He was a collector of buttons, which he displayed on his favorite hat. He also had an extensive collection of Santa Claus materials as well as Boy Scout patches. Stephen was an active member of the Congregational United Church of Christ here in Klamath Falls. Stephen was together with his husband, Jay, for 32 years. They were married on April 25, 2015. This was the most important day in Stephen's life. He enjoyed spending time with his husband. His favorite music was rock 'n' roll. His favorite song was "We've Only Just Begun," which played at his wedding. Survivors include his husband, Jay Zimmermann; his sister, Kathy Vawter and her husband John Jr.; his sister, Pam Hicks and her husband Alan; his sister, Marilyn Ford and her husband, Bill; his aunt, Evelyn Hartman; and his cousin, Debbie Hansen and her spouse Stuart. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hal and Grace Shidler; his parents, Dick and Jean McDonald; and his brother, James McDonald. Stephen will be remembered as a caring, compassionate, generous, kind and loving man. His faith has carried him home and he will be blessed.
