Malefyt, Stephen James, passed away at Hoag Hospital at the age of 74 on November 28, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife, Pamela of Corona del Mar; his daughter, Kate of Austin, TX; step-children, Tiffany and Christian Seale; and grandchildren, Jacob, Greyson, Maggie and Lily. He was predeceased by his sons, Christopher and Ryan. Steve was born in Fresno, CA to James and Ellen (Miles) Malefyt. Additional survivors include beloved brothers and sisters, Denny Malefyt, Ann McIlwain, Mary McIntee and Tom Malefyt as well as his brothers and sisters in-law, nieces and nephews, all who love him dearly. Steve attended Cal State Long Beach and obtained his degree from Cal State Pomona. As a licensed landscape architect, he was appreciated and enjoyed by his many clients of Malefyt Land Planning. Steve's work involved him in many prestigious local developments in Southern California. Steve was also an artist, a master of water colors and ceramics, having participated in local art festivals. His other hobbies were woodworking, camping and hiking. Known for his sense of humor, it endeared him to his many friends and associates who are too numerous to count. We will always remember Steve with a smile on his face, a joke up his sleeve and a golf club in his hands. A Celebration of Life will be held in January. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Myelodysplastic Syndrome Foundation.
