Sophie Malatak Sophie Malatak, 96, of Nesquehoning, entered into eternal rest Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, in her residence surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late Michael Malatak, who passed away on April 11, 2011. Born in Nesquehoning, she was the daughter of the late Wash and Essie (Kochaba) Stropcosky. She was employed for GMC in New Jersey making airplane parts for WWII. She was then employed by many garment factories throughout the area until retiring. Sophie was a member of St. John's Russian Orthodox Church, Nesquehoning. She was also a member of the Nesquehoning VFW Auxiliary. Sophie was an avid reader. Surviving are a son Michael and his wife Carol of Nesquehoning; grandchildren Melissa Malatak, Rebecca Malatak-Miller, and Stephan Risteter and his wife Sarah; great-grandchildren Sophie Heffelfinger and Ethan Risteter; and many nieces and nephews. Services: A Panachida service will be held Monday, Oct. 17, at 10:30 a.m. in the Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home, 81 E. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning, followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. in St. John's Russian Orthodox Church, 9 E. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, with the Rev. Robert J. Teklinski officiating. Call Monday morning 9 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home. Interment will be held in the parish cemetery, Nesquehoning. The Joseph S. Blazosky Funeral Home has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
