In memory of
Sophie Amelia Korosec
Sophie A. Korosec, 95, formerly of Vandling, died peacefully on Aug. 31 in Wayzata, Minn. She was the widow of Joseph Korosec, who died in 1994. The couple celebrated 50 years of marriage together in 1993. Born in Pleasant Mount, daughter of the late Frank and Mary Petrocich Bezek, she was raised in Vandling, by her godparents, Joseph and Mary Korosec, from age 11. In 1943, she married their nephew, Joseph. Together, they owned and operated Korosec's Market in Vandling, where she also ran a branch of the town post office for a period of time. She was a graduate of Vandling High School, and a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church, now Ascension Parish, Forest City. An avid reader, Sophie was well versed in religion, politics and baseball, especially her Boston Red Sox, and she charmed all with her amazing recollection of family and Vandling history. Her stories were humorous and vibrant, and she seemed to know everybody. She loved music, from the classics to country. Most at home in the kitchen, she delighted all with her baking and home-cooked meals prepared from memory and with little fanfare. While she will be missed by so many, she leaves behind a legacy of handcrafted items too numerous to count, including quilts, embroidery, afghans, Christening gowns and needlepoint Christmas stockings for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sophie is survived by three daughters, Mary Kearney, Carolyn Cottrell and Barbara Hemsley and husband, Stephen; 12 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a brother, John Bezek; three sisters, Dorothy Suhadolnik, Mildred Amadio and Agnes Susco; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Frank Bezek, Mary Calame, Frances Warring, Ann Pazel and Pauline Schum. The funeral will be Saturday, Oct. 22, with Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Delaware Street, Forest City. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Forest City. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:30 until Mass time. Arrangements by the Jones & Brennan Funeral Home, 430 Main St., Forest City. Memorial gifts may be sent to Park Nicollet Foundation, 6500 Excelsior Boulevard, St. Louis Park, MN 55426. A note should be included to designate the gift to the Hospice Excellence Fund in honor of Sophie Amelia Korosec. To send online condolences, visit the funeral home website. ... Show More
