Shirley Woodhouse Shirley Woodhouse, 96, died October 12, 2016, in Arroyo Grande. She was born in Seattle, Washington to John and Desdemona Mason and was a resident of Shell Beach for 49 years. Shirley was a graduate of Hollywood High School. A World War II veteran, she enlisted into the U.S. Navy, the WAVES, on July 16, 1943, in Portland, Oregon. She was an Apprentice Seaman 2nd class and a Specialist 3rd class. She taught recruits how to fly in link trainers. After the war, Shirley worked for the Retail Clerks International Assoc. and the Los Angeles County Employees Assoc. She was a member of the Shell Beach Woman's Club and Eastern Star. She loved gardening, has travelled around the world and was also an avid fan of Tom Selleck. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Sandra; three grandchildren: Ron, Caroline and Robert; three great grandchildren: James, Matthew and Greyson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruce and two sons, Harold and John. Services have not been scheduled. Instead of flowers any donations are to be made to The Salvation Army.
