LaPine, Shirley Shirley Elizabeth (Clarke) LaPine, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many passed peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Shirley was born at home on January 2, 1934 in Bethel, Connecticut to John Henry and Ethel Clarke. Shirley was raised in Bethel where she met and married Richard C. LaPine in 1955. Shirley began her professional life at the Southern New England Telephone Company and ultimately became a volunteer with the American Cancer Society culminating in her position as Director. Shirley was a loving, caring person whose goal in her own life was to make life better for others and those less fortunate. She spent many years as a dedicated volunteer at Ann's Place and the American Cancer Society in Danbury; St. Matthew's House in Naples, Florida and at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable with the Church Vestry and the Church Garden Committee. In the mid-1980s, Shirley began working in the Development Fund Office of Danbury Hospital where she ended her career as the Vice-President of the Development Fund. In 2012, Shirley and Rich retired to their beloved beach house in East Sandwich. She was predeceased by her parents; her sister Dorothy and brothers John and Donald and survived by her sisters Jeanne Parille and Ethel Leahey of Danbury, Connecticut and many nieces and nephews. Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Richard; her sons Paul (Wendy) of Barnstable, John (Chrystal) of West Barnstable and Bill, also of West Barnstable. She is also survived by her grandchildren Alyssa, Matthew, Joshua, Benjamin and Elizabeth. There will be a memorial service held at St Mary's Episcopal Church in Barnstable in the Spring.
