Gara, Shirley (Peotter) Shirley Mae (Peotter) Gara, age 84, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2016 with her husband by her side. She was born on April 3, 1932 to the late Roy and Myrtle (Sachs) Peotter in Seymour. She graduated from Seymour High School, and on November 27, 1956 married Albert Gara in Alamogordo, New Mexico. Shirley enjoyed sewing, cooking, camping and reading. She loved music and animals, especially her dogs. Since 1994 Shirley and Albert spent their winters in Lumberton and Alamo, Texas. She worked for various employers in the area, including Fox River Paper and Kurz and Root before becoming a mother, once she was back in the work force, she took a position with The Outagamie County Commission on Aging, as a Coordinator of Senior Meals, providing meals for seniors at Fox Valley Technical College. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Albert, daughter, Susan (Todd) Quick, sister and brothers; Janice Young, Donald (Ann) Peotter and Kennen Peotter as well as brother in law, Bob Igl. Shirley is further survived by her nieces and nephews; Cynthia (Wes) Pinchot, Annette (John) Robert, Craig (Mary Robyn) Peotter and Steven (Kelly) Peotter. Shirley is preceded in death by her parents and her niece, Marilyn Blackley-Braund. A memorial service for Shirley will be held at 1:00pm, Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at Valley Funeral Home, 2211 N. Richmond St, Appleton with Pastor Mike Huff officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00pm until the time of service. Inurnment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Brewster Village for the wonderful loving care given to Shirley.
