In memory of
Shirley Hope (Robbins) Dierdorff passed away peacefully January 20, 2017, in Longmont, Colorado. Shirley was born May 3, 1923, at the Sanitarium in Boulder, Colorado, to Francis L. Robbins and Florence E. (King) Robbins. She graduated from Boulder High in 1941 along with her high school sweetheart, Dean Dierdorff. They attended CU, then Shirley trained for a short time as a machinist. As WWII escalated, Dean joined the US Navy. Shirley followed him to St. Louis where he attended electrician school. They were married in St. Louis on March 20, 1943. After being discharged, Dean went to work for F.W. Woolworth and they lived in Scotts Bluff, Nebraska;, Cheyenne, Wyoming; and Pecos, Texas. They moved back to Boulder in 1957 and Dean began his career at Rocky Flats. Shirley worked in the CU Bookstore and then was an assistant dir ector o f CU's Artist Series. After retiring, Shirley & Dean enjoyed 25 years traveling in their RV's to all 50 states, Mexico, and Canada. Shirley was active playing golf, bowling, playing cards, reading, sewing, and doing crafts. Most especially, Shirley was a friend. She loved people, sharing, supporting, laughing and crying. She did not know a stranger, and once she counted you her friend, it was for life. She was a precious and uplifting part of her family's lives and we will miss her greatly. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Dean, her brother James, and her daughters, Beth Trader and Mary Fay. She leaves behind her son Ralph & daughter-in-law Barb, her daughter Robin & son-in-law Steve Thompson, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held at Howe Funeral Home in Longmont on Saturday, February 18, at 1:30 pm.
