Shig Iwamiya passed away on December 31, 2016 in Lodi at the age of 88. He was born October 12, 1928 in Walnut Grove, CA to Teruichi and Teruko Iwamiya. At the age of 2 the family moved to Acampo. He graduated from Lodi High School, and served his country honorably in the US Army. He worked for a time as a cabinetmaker and continued his education at Trade school. He returned to Lodi and worked for Parsons of California (now Applied Aerospace Structures) in Stockton, retiring after 37 years. Shig enjoyed gardening, fishing and was an avid bowler. He was preceded in death by his parents. Shig is survived by his wife of 49 years Naomi Iwamiya, siblings: Toshiko Nishimoto, George Iwamiya, Wendy Nagao, Tom Iwamiya, Haruko Onishi and Dick Iwamiya; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Lodi Buddhist Church, 23 N Stockton St. in Lodi. In lieu of flowers donations are preferred to the Lodi Buddhist church or to the charity of the donor's choice in Shig's name.
