In memory of
Shelley Ann (Bergman) Parker
Shelley Ann Parker lost her courageous battle with cancer Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016, at Fairbanks Memorial Hospital with her loving husband, Bobby, at her side, along with family and friends. Shelley was born in Fairbanks at Saint Joseph's Hospital on July 3, 1957, to Ruth and Emil Bergman. She grew up in Fairbanks, attending University Park Elementary, Ryan Junior High and Lathrop High schools. Many of her childhood friends have remained lifelong friends. Shelley and Louis (Bill) Hering Jr., were married and of that union was the birth of their son, Keif. While living in Fort Yukon, Shelley worked as an employment and education tech for Tanana Chiefs Conference from 1982-84 and later worked on the Valdez oil spill cleanup and with BLM Fire Service. Shelley and Robert Parker Jr., even though they had known each other for many years, it was in 1989 they begin dating, and they were married in 1994. They found great happiness together and enjoyed 22 wonderful years together. Shelley selflessly helped elders who were confined to their homes and needed home and personal care. She took pride in knowing her hard work and compassion helped the elders remain at home during their difficult time. After that, she worked in the environmental services department of FMH. Shelley found pleasure in cooking and making baked goods. Soon after, she and Bobby moved into their newly built home, her niece and a few of the neighborhood children visited them and she gave them fresh baked cookies. Word spread fast and a few days later, they all came to her and explained it would be a really good idea for her to bake cookies every week. Of course, she was happy to oblige. Shelley had a great knack for putting things together, even the most puzzling furniture and household equipment. Sewing was another great pastime. She also enjoyed making many artistic projects. She was a shareholder of Doyon, Limited and Tozitna, Limited. Shelley's kindness, generosity and loving spirit will be missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her husband, Robert Parker Jr.; son Keif Hering; grandchildren Katlyn and Arianna; brothers James Bergman (Debbie), Jerry Bergman, Emil Bergman III, Eric Macchione (Melody), Peter Macchione (Morgan) and Dominic Macchione; sisters Peggy Wright, Ruth James (Victor) and Laura Anderson (Kevin John); and many nieces and nephews. Shelley was preceded in death by father Emil Bergman II, her mother, Ruth Macchione, and nephew Theodore Born. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 21, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1029 First Ave., with burial at Birch Hill Cemetery.
