Sheldon W. Goldstein
Sheldon W. Goldstein, 94, a resident of Elan Gardens and Scranton, died Sunday evening in Regional Hospital of Scranton. His wife, the former Leona Kessler, died in 2005. Born in Scranton, son of the late Perry and Beatrice Kleinberger Goldstein, he was a graduate of Scranton Central High School and attended the Wharton School. Sheldon was an Army Air Force veteran, having served during World War II in the European theater of operations. For many years, he operated Perry's Hardware on Adams Avenue in Scranton, and thereafter was a manager for the Community Bake Shop before his retirement. He was a member of both Temple Israel of Dunmore and Temple Israel of Scranton. Additionally, he was a member of the Jewish Community Center and its Senior Adult Club, and was a longtime member of and served as a past commander of the Sandy Weisberger-Leon Kaplan Jewish War Veterans Post No. 165, as well as past president of Jewish Family Services. Surviving are his sons, Richard Goldstein, Marlboro, N.J.; and Gary Goldstein, Chester Springs; grandchildren, Seth Goldstein, Mark Goldstein and wife, Jamie; his sister, Faye Glick and husband, Jack, of Harrisburg; nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his daughters-in-law, Cathy Goldstein and Paula Goldstein; and his sister, Phyllis Greenland. The funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Carlucci-Golden-DeSantis Funeral Home Inc., 318 E. Drinker St., Dunmore, with services by Cantor Vladimir Aronzon. Interment to follow in Dalton Jewish Cemetery. Friends may call Wednesday from 10 until the time of service. Friends will be received during shiva Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m.; Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon and 2 to 4 p.m.; and Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Jewish Home, 1101 Vine St., Scranton.
