Mentzel, Scott David Scott David Mentzel, "Scooter" to his family, of Florence, Arizona, passed away, Wednesday, September 28, 2016 in Phoenix, Arizona at the age of 54. Scott was born May 3, 1962 in New London, Wisconsin to Vernon and Bernice (Sullivan) Mentzel. Scott served in the United States Navy as an Airframer in aviation structural mechanics where he became a master welder. During his lifetime, Scott worked at various mines across the United States and taught welding at his daughter's high school. Scott semi-retired a few years prior to his passing. He was an avid hunter and fisher, loving to explore deep into the mountains, when there was no path or person in sight. He also enjoyed collecting horns, riding four-wheelers, and spending time with his daughter, family, and friends. Scott loved to laugh and be a goof and would have taken pleasure in the fact that he passed away on "hump day". Scott is survived by his daughter, Samantha J. Mentzel of Las Vegas, Nevada; his sisters, Maryjo Diedrich of Neenah-Menasha, Wisconsin, Lynn Davis of Appleton, Wisconsin, and Jan Jawort of Manawa, Wisconsin; nieces, Lindsay and Molly Diedrich, and Robin and Tammy Jawort; nephews, Jeremy Davis and Cory Jawort; and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Bernice, and his sister, Nora Mentzel. A celebration of life service will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the American Legion located at 520 S. Main St., Florence, Arizona 85132, with military honors.
