SARA STUKENBROEKER
STUKENBROEKER Sara Jefferson Stukenbroeker (Age 97) Passed peacefully on February 15, 2017, at Westminster at Lake Ridge where she resided for nearly 20 years, most of those alongside her dear late husband of 64 years, Fern C. Stukenbroeker. Born and raised in Tennessee with brothers, Willard and Caswell Jefferson, she met her husband while attending Lindenwood College in Missouri and was a loving mother to three children, Sally Pellegrom of Newton, MA, Ann Callender of Woodbridge, VA and George Stukenbroeker of Fairfax, VA. She cherished her seven grandchildren, Elizabeth Callender, Daniel Pellegrom, Robert Callender, Benjamin Pellegrom, Tyler Stukenbroeker, Sara Pellegrom and Wesley Stukenbroeker and her four great-grandchildren, Zara, Abigail, Dahlia and Ruby. A resident of Northern Virginia for 69 years, she was a public school teacher in Alexandria and Fairfax County, the final years of her career being spent at Mantua Elementary where she taught fifth grade, her favorite class level. She and her husband loved to travel across the United States and the world, taking tours to Europe, Asia, Africa and South America. She was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Alexandria, where she served in many roles, and was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She was an avid reader, loved the performing arts, played in numerous bridge groups and swam almost daily until age 95. In 2013, she self published an informal memoir, Memories of a Happy Life. She will be interred beside her husband following a family-only burial service at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 18. A public memorial service will be held at Westminster at Lake Ridge (WLR), 12191 Clipper Drive, Woodbridge, VA at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The family requests any donations in her honor be sent to the Westminster Ingleside Foundation, 5121 Broad Branch Road, NW, Washington, D.C. 20008, with recipient being noted as the "WLR Resident Supporting Fund" or Trinity United Methodist Church, 2911 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, VA 22302.
