Samuel Hertz Local pharmacy owner Samuel Hertz, beloved father, husband, and grandfather, passed away in Boca Raton, Fla., on Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, peacefully and painlessly at the age of 90. Services will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Menorah Chapel, 2950 Vaux Hall Rd., Union, N.J. 07088 followed by burial services at Beth Israel Memorial Park, Rte 1, Woodbridge, N.J. Samuel was born in Newark, N.J., and worked at his father's butcher shop in Irvington, N.J. His education at Rutgers University was interrupted by the war, during which he was a U.S. Navy medic. He then completed his education and became a pharmacist in 1950. Sam was the partner/owner at Elmora Pharmacy in Elizabeth, N.J., from 1952 to 1995. Samuel is survived by his wife, Janice; and was predeceased by his first wife, Renee in 1984. He leaves behind three children, William (wife, Christine), Michael, and Steven (wife, Lisa); brother, Edwin (wife, Rhoda); six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and Janice's three sons. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the N.J. Pharmacists Association, Rutgers University, or the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., in his memory.
