BAKER, Sammie Francis Sammie Francis Baker passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 surrounded by her family. She was born on March 16, 1933 in Omaha, TX to James Samuel Robinson and Lura Francis Harvey Robinson. After graduation from Omaha High School in 1950, she moved to Dallas and began her career at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. She met her soulmate, best friend, and husband Emmett Lamar Baker in 1952 and they married on August 4, 1954 celebrating 62 years of marriage. Sammie was a wonderful mother to her daughters, Nannette and Sherry, and took some time from her career to be a stay at home mom. After returning to Southwestern Bell, she retired in 1989 serving over 30 years with friends who were as close as family. Sammie was a telephone company Pioneer, a long-time member of Casa View and Shiloh Terrace Baptist Churches and was active until her stroke in March, 2015. She delighted in caring and cooking for her children and grandchildren. Sammie was proceeded in death by her father Sam Robinson, her mother and step-father, Lura and Roe Tigert, and her son-in-law Jim Batten. She is survived by her husband of 62 years Emmett; daughter and granddaughter Sherry and Lauren Baker of Austin; daughter and son-in-law, Nan and Phil Ketcham of Rockwall; grandson William Batten of San Antonio; grandson Richard, wife Jaymie, and great-grandsons Jay and Henry Batten of Crandall. A memorial service will be held at Shiloh Terrace Baptist Church, 9810 La Prada, Dallas, TX on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 11 am. Sammie left a legacy of faith, caring, and giving. She knew God could move mountains and encouraged those around her to work hard to achieve their calling. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association, Shiloh Terrace Youth Ministry, Louise Herrington School of Nursing, or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
