Ruth Marie Sills December 25, 2016 Ruth Marie Sills passed from this earth on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016. She was born on August 17, 1939, in South Bend, Indiana. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 plus years, Col. Joel W. Sills, USAF, Ret., her son Joel, Jr. (Heidi) and daughter Tracy. She was blessed with two grandsons, Ian and Colin , whom she loved so very much. Ruth graduated from the University of Georgia in 1961. She was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi sorority and was inducted into Phi Kappa Phi honorary scholastic society as well as being inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma, a journalistic honorary scholastic society. She graduated with Honors. She followed her husband from one assignment to another throughout his 27 year career. Ruth spent five and a half years in Japan and four years in Washington D.C. as well as such exotic places as Del Rio, Texas, Tacoma, Washington, and Montgomery, Alabama to name just a few. Ruth and Joel came to Fort Myers in 1992. She served as past President of the Continental Women's Club of Greater Fort Myers and was a Deacon at New Hope Presbyterian Church as well as a leader of Stephen Ministers. She was a humble, caring and compassionate person who loved God, her family, her church, and this great country. She will be missed by many whose lives she touched. A "Celebration of Life" will be held on Jan. 14, 2017 at 10AM at New Hope Presbyterian Church, 10051 Plantation Road, Fort Myers, Florida, 33966. Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
