Ruth E. Bates
Ruth E. Bates, 75, of Windsor, peacefully passed away on January 11, 2017 while at Hartford Hospital surrounded by her family. Born in Hartford, CT on June 22, 1941, Ruth was a daughter of the late Walter Peterson and Dorothy (Girard) Peterson. She graduated from Windsor High School in 1959 and attended Morse Business College. Ruth drove a school bus for 22 years before retiring from Rainbow Bus Company in Windsor. Her community service was far reaching and she proudly served as an EMT in the towns of Windsor, Suffield, and Windsor Locks. Ruth was a member of First Church in Windsor and generously supported their numerous outreach ministries. Over the years her love of arts and crafts and sewing enabled her to create some beautiful keepsakes including her stunning Christmas stockings. She leaves her husband of 45 years, Leonard "Len" F. Bates of Windsor and three sons, Kenneth R. Bates and his wife Marjorie of Hobe Sound, FL, Chris Bates and his wife Dina of Windsor, and Kevin Bates of Windsor; a sister, Jane Johnson of Middletown, NJ; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda Bahre. Her family will receive friends on Saturday, January 14, 2017 from 2 - 3 p.m. at Carmon Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at First Church in Windsor, 107 Palisado Ave. Burial will be privately held and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Masonicare Home Health & Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza #200, East Hartford, CT 06108.
