Royce F. Knowlen
Royce F. Knowlen, 76, of Bloomfield, peacefully joined his loving soulmate of 57 years, the late Patricia Ann (Vignone) Knowlen on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital with his family by his side. Born in Westfield, ME on March 6, 1940, son of the late Harry and Alta (Moore) Knowlen, he was raised in Houlton, ME and had moved to Hartford with his family as a young boy and had lived in Bloomfield for over 50 years. Royce worked for over 40 years in the automotive industry starting his career at Daniels Cadillac as a mechanic. He later worked for Precision Automotive as mechanic on high-performance dragsters and then at Thomas Cadillac in Hartford as a service writer. He ended his career as a driver for Valenti Cadillac which he often said was the most fulfilling. Royce loved interacting with customers and talking to them about their lives and their families. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, playing golf or cards with his friends and family, and watching NASCAR. He was an avid UConn Women's Basketball fan as well as a Boston Red Sox and Dallas Cowboys fan. A jack-of-all-trades, Royce could fix anything and there was nothing he couldn't build from an addition to his home to a bookcase for his great granddaughter. Most of all, Royce will be remembered as a family man who enjoyed vacationing with his wife, daughter, and grandchildren, especially to Myrtle Beach, SC. He lovingly cared for his wife's grave planting flowers and visiting every day. He leaves his daughter, Debbie Wheelock of Bloomfield; two grandchildren, Jessica Sargalski and her husband Andrew of Bloomfield, and Jordan Wheelock and his fiancé Christina McNeff of Enfield; two great grandchildren and one to be born next week that will bear his name, Brooke Sargalski, Noah Wheelock, and Kallie Royce Sargalski; a sister, Annie Rogers of Saginaw, TX; a special friend, Jeff Sargalski of Bloomfield; many nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters-in-law; and his faithful companion Cole whom he affectionately cared for and referred to as his "Buddy." Besides his beloved wife Patricia, he was predeceased by a brother, Rudell Knowlen, Sr.; and a sister, Shirley Guzman. His family will receive friends on Sunday, January 15, 4-7 p.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel, 130 Deerfield Rd., Windsor. A funeral service will be held on Monday, January 16, 11 a.m., at The Lodge Community Chapel. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Royce's family has requested that memorial donations in his memory be made to the American Heart Association, 5 Brookside Dr., Wallingford, CT 06492 or to the American Lung Association, 45 Ash St., East Hartford, CT 06108.
