Roy Schindler CREVE COEUR - Roy Fred Schindler, 92, of Creve Coeur passed away Monday, October 17, 2016, at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley. He had been living at the Illinois Veteran's Home in LaSalle since October of 2015. He was born January 5, 1924, in Chicago to William and Lillian Miller Schindler. He married Mary Schelling on May 28, 1949. in Peoria. She preceded him in death on February 20, 1994. He was also preceded in death by his parents; one infant sister; sister, Elenore (Thomas Sr.) Wilson; brother, William (Wanda) Schindler; and grandson, John Paul Hilligoss. He is survived by his children, Fred (Debbie) Schindler, Kathleen (Keith) Schindler-Wright, Scott Schindler, Steve (Gail) Schindler and David (Mindy) Schindler; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Roy served in the U.S. Navy in Normandy and was a lifetime member of the Creve Coeur VFW Post #4835. He worked for Caterpillar, retiring in 1985. He was a genius at remembering and telling jokes and he loved making people laugh. He loved his family and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him. His visitation will be held Friday, October 21, 2016, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Abts Mortuary in Pekin. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, at Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria, with military honors. Pastor Charles Houston will officiate.
