Pane, Rosemary 12/4/1918 - 1/4/2017 Rosemary Pane, age 98, died peacefully on January 4, 2017 at Powhatan Nursing Home in Falls Church, VA. She is survived by her son Gregg and his spouse Karen, along with three grandchildren, Melanie and Katherine age 15, and Garrick age 10. She was preceded in death by her husband Anthony Pane age 85 in December 2004, and also by her beloved sister, Ruth Fitzgerald. Rosemary grew up in Ann Arbor and was a graduate of Ann Arbor High School and Cleary College. She was married on April 10,1943, and was a civilian secretary in the Army while Tony was stationed at Ft. Belvoir, Ft. Leonard Wood and in New Mexico with the Army Corps of Engineers Manhattan Project. After the war, they settled in Flint, Michigan and were employed by Buick Motor Division. Rosemary was an excellent athlete as a schoolgirl, winning many ribbons and trophies in multiple sports. She was a hard worker with an always sunny, positive disposition and outlook on life. Her father, Gar Malejan, was a tailor at Van Boven, and served the President of the University of Michigan. Her mother, Queenie, was a furrier who started her own business, and who also constructed the Queen Building on Liberty Street. While at a Catholic dance at the University in the 1940s, she was bumped on the dance floor by the great All-American, Tom Harmon, who purportedly gazed at her and apologized for the incident! Memorial services will be held at Nie Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, MI. on January 16, 2017 at 12:00 noon with visitation from 11:30 am to 12:00 noon.
