Rose Marie House
Rose Marie House January 1, 1923-October 12, 2016 Rose Marie (Azevedo) House Rose Marie House, who has been synonymous with dance and piano in Los Banos for more than a half-century, passed away October 12th at age 93. Rose owned and directed a dance studio in Los Banos from 1952 to 2006. During that time she taught more than 1,000 young people dance or piano. She stopped giving dance lessons in. She continued giving piano lessons until 2015. Rose was born on Jan. 1, 1923 in Gustine, CA, the sixth of seven children of Joaquin P. and Marianna P. Azevedo. Rose enjoyed working and playing outdoors on her parents' ranch. Her dad gave Rose her own horse and gun. She enjoyed riding and rodeos, and she learned how to shoot accurately. As hard-working as her parents were, they also loved music. Joaquin played the guitar, and he and Marianna made it a point to have a piano in their home. Rose started taking piano lessons at age six, and by the age of 14 Rose was playing the organ and piano at Our Lady of Miracles Church in Gustine. At the age of 15 Rose started attending the San of Francisco School of Music, where she earned a diploma. During World War II Rose volunteered for the USO and was assigned to entertain the troops with her piano skills. Later she attended the Hollywood School of Dance for advanced courses in dance. Soon she was giving piano, organ, and dance lessons for young people in Gustine, Los Banos, and Dos Palos. In 1952 she relocated from Gustine to Los Banos, where many of her students lived, opening her studio on Nevada Street. For more than 50 years Rose Marie's dance recitals at the Los Banos Fairgrounds were among the grand events in Los Banos. In 1988 the Kiwanis presented her with its "Distinguished Service Award," and in 1992 the Soroptimists named her a "Woman of Distinction." Rose was preceded in death by Margret Roberts, Mamie Caetano, Tony Azevedo, John Azevedo and Manuel Azevedo. She is survived by her two children James House and Paulette Brinlee, and four grandchildren Lorrie House, Tiffany House, Elizabeth Brinlee, and Nathan Brinlee. A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated for Rose at St. Joseph's Church in Los Banos on October 17th. A viewing followed with a rosary will be held at Whitehurst Funeral Chapel on Sunday October 16th beginning at 5:PM. www.cvobituaries.com
