CARROLL Rose Dolores Carroll, 92, of Little Torch Key passed away on January 3, 2017. Born in Chicago to James and Rose Benda on October 3, 1924, she loved being on and near the water from the first time her parents took her to a small inland lake in Wisconsin. She completed her Bachelor's Degree from Northern Illinois State Teachers College and was teaching music in northern Michigan by the age of 19. Rose married Clare Carroll on December 22, 1946 and lived in southwestern Michigan where she continued her teaching career. From their honeymoon on, Rose and Clare visited the Keys once or twice a year until they both retired and moved to Little Torch Key in 1980. Rose enjoyed boating, fishing, bridge, and other card games for many years. She was a regular at the Big Pine Senior Center, the United Methodist Church on Big Pine Key and the Vineyard Church on Big Pine. Rose was predeceased by her husband in 1999, Clare Carroll. She is survived by her sister, Shirley Jane Gifford of California, her daughter, Bonnie Gallagher of Colorado and son, Larry Carroll of Maryland. She is also survived by grandson Ryan Carroll of Washington, DC, grandson John Gallagher of Kansas, granddaughter Lindsay Carroll of Pennsylvania, granddaughter Patricia Gallagher of Alaska, granddaughter Catherine Gallagher of Colorado, and grandson David Gallagher of California. She is also survived by great grandchildren Natalie, Adam, and Henry Gallagher of Kansas. Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday January 7th at the Dean-Lopez Funeral Home Big Pine Key 31140 Overseas Highway Big Pine Key, FL. Burial was in the Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Big Pine Key. The Dean-Lopez Funeral Home Big Pine Key is entrusted with all funeral arrangements.
