Ronald Wilson
Ronald LeRoy Wilson, 71, of Sugar Grove, passed away unexpectedly on January 11, 2017. He was born on April 19, 1945 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of Marshall LeRoy and Helen Maxine (Ward) Wilson. Ron graduated from Broad Ripple High School in Indianapolis, IN in 1963, where he played football, wrestled, was a band member and sang in the A Cappella choir. After high school, Ron enlisted in the U.S. Army. He then attended Purdue University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, Ron went to work for Woolco. In 1979 he went to work in Communications for Western Union International, then MCI and France Telecom. Ron changed career paths again in 2000 and worked as a financial advisor for Merrill Lynch and Edward Jones, retiring in 2012. In retirement, Ron enjoyed the craft of woodworking and was an avid sportsman. He and Mary Ellen also enjoyed travelling in their RV. He was a lifetime member and Past President of the Aurora Sportman's Club, where he oversaw moving the club facilities to Waterman. During his tenure as club president, Ron instituted the Ranger Safety Officer Training Program, which has since been adopted by many other clubs. Ron was a skilled handyman and mechanic always willing to help family and friends with repairs and projects. He was also very proud of his 1964 MGB. Ron was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather, who always had a dry sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Mary Ellen (Concannon) Wilson; his children, Christopher Leroy (Kelly) Wilson of Montgomery, IL, Elenor Anne (Frank Schwolow) Wilson of Northampton, MA and Elizabeth Kathleen (Nicholas) Bruhn, of Lombard, IL; his grandchildren, Robert Leroy Wilson, Abigail Ellen Wilson, Lillian Beatrice Bruhn and Walter Hadley Bruhn and his dog, Ranger. Ron was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Carole Kiser. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 15, 2017 from 1 P.M. until a time of sharing at 5 P.M. at The Healy Chapel, 370 Division Dr., Sugar Grove, IL 60554.
