Ronald Earl Phillips was born in Vandalia, Mo. to Blanch and Albert Phillips on October 27, 1931 and passed away after four years of fighting cancer, on Mar. 24, 2017. He was the second of four children. The eldest, Betty Lou Jackson, the third, Larry Tinsley Phillips, and the youngest, Linda Marie Livers. He attended schools in Vandalia graduating from Vandalia High in 1949. He then enlisted in the US Navy, retiring after 20 years. He met his future wife, Virginia Phelps, while on leave and they were married December 9, 1951. Four daughters were born to this union. Evelyn Engler, Minneapolis, Minn.; Sandra Bizak, Kent, Wash; Cindy Smith, Covington, Wash.; and Debbie Goodman, Surprise, Ariz. After retiring from the Navy, Ron found work in the automotive industry, managing several different warehouses. Upon retirement they moved to their cabin in the foot-hills of Mt. Rainier where they spent many happy years. Besides his daughters he leaves his wife of 65 years, nine grand children and six great grandchildren. Burial services were held March 30, 2017 at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, Wash.
