RON PETERSON Ronald William "Ron" Peterson, 71, passed away unexpectedly Monday, Oct. 3, 2016, while staying with his brother, Gary Peterson, in Fort Collins, Colo. The cause of death was cerebral hemorrhage. Ron was a long time resident of Las Vegas, serving many years as Food and Beverage Manager for Stations Casinos, and then as a consultant for Outwest Meats in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 16, 1945, at Holdrege, Nebraska, the son of Walter A. and Evelyn C. (nee Johnson) Peterson. He graduated from Holdrege High School in 1962, and attended the University of Nebraska; completing his education at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York in 1967. Upon graduation from the CIA, he received a one year Fellowship followed by a one year Associate Teaching position. His career in the food industry first took him to California, where he worked for Victoria Station, opening restaurants around the United States. After a stint with the Magic Pan restaurants in San Francisco, he returned to Hyde Park as a Professor at the Culinary Institute for over 10 years before joining Stations Casinos in Las Vegas. Ron was named a "Fellow" of the Culinary Institute of America, the highest honor bestowed on alumni. Ron was an avid collector of Haviland porcelain, and a member of Haviland Collectors International Foundation. In addition to collecting Victorian porcelain he also was keenly interested in mother of pearl handled flatware, and hosting impromptu cooking lessons for friends. In addition to his brother, Gary, he is survived by his sister-in-law Jackie, two nieces, and numerous cousins. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the Council Tree Covenant Church, 4825 S. Lemay St., Fort Collins, Colo. Interment in the family plot in Holdrege, under the auspices of the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege.
